Fly screen cleaning is an add-on to a window clean. We take every screen out, run it through a screen washing machine, wipe the frame dry and put it back in the window it came from. Removable security screens get the same treatment. If your screens have gone grey with dust, this is the fix.
We do not do screens on their own, so ask for it when you book your windows.
Why hosing them does not work
A hose sprays water at the mesh from one side. The dirt in the weave gets pushed further in, and the screen dries looking cleaner from a distance and no better up close.
What the machine does
The screens come out of the windows at the start of the job. Each one runs back and forth through the brushes of a purpose-built screen washer, so the dirt is pulled out of the weave. Then the frame is wiped on every side, including the corners where dust and spider webs collect.
Screens are not interchangeable, even when they look identical. So we count them out, keep them in order, and count them back in. Upstairs and downstairs screens go in separate piles.
Why it is worth adding
You look at your windows through the screens. Clean glass behind a dusty grey mesh still looks dull, and the room is darker than it needs to be. Because it happens slowly, most people stop seeing it until the screens come back clean.
Screens that are past it
Some screens should not go in a machine.
Mesh that has gone brittle, frames that have softened in the sun, corners already pulling apart. We check each screen for damage as it comes off, photograph anything already broken, and tell you which ones are too far gone. A fragile screen gets left out of the wash.
If a screen does need replacing, we will say so. We do not make them, so there is nothing in it for us either way.
