We do shower screen cleaning by hand, along with bathroom mirrors, mirrored robe doors and glass splashbacks. That includes the cloudy build-up that spray and a cloth stopped shifting long ago, and mirrors that never quite come up clear.
It is a separate service from a window clean, so ask for it when you call and we will price it with the rest.
Why shower glass goes cloudy
Every shower leaves a thin film of water on the glass, carrying soap and a little mineral. When the water dries, the rest stays behind. Do that every day for a year and you have hundreds of thin layers stacked up on the surface. That stack is the cloudiness.
That is why spray and a cloth stops working after a while. It only reaches the top layer.
What comes off, and what does not
Build-up on the glass comes off. If it has sat there for years, it can mark the glass itself, and then only a new screen fixes it. We’ll tell you which you’ve got before we start.
Coated and toughened glass
Lots of newer shower screens have a coating that makes water bead up and run off. Strong cleaners strip it off. The glass looks great for about a week, then stains faster than it ever did, because the thing protecting it is gone. So we treat a screen as coated unless it clearly is not.
Most shower screens are also toughened glass, which a razor blade can scratch. So a razor never goes near them.
Mirrors
Mirrors are unforgiving. A window with a faint streak reads as clean. A mirror with a faint streak shows from the doorway, because you stand square in front of it and look right at it.
They get done by hand, edge to edge, including the bottom strip where toothpaste and spray collect, and checked in the light before we move on.
The one thing worth doing yourself
Keep a squeegee in the shower and give the glass one pass after the last shower of the day. It takes the water off before it can dry onto the surface, and it beats anything in a spray bottle. Most people who start doing it find they need us a lot less often.
Booking it
Add it to a window clean or have it done on its own. Tell us roughly how bad the shower glass is and whether it has been cleaned before, and we will know what to bring.
